Roberto Matta

William Latham and Roberto Matta, the last Surrrealist, met three times. The first was in Monte Carlo where Matta attended a talk by Latham in which he was showing his early IBM works and FormSynth drawings. Both artists were also on the same panel at the Monte Carlo computer graphics conference, Imagina. After this they met for dinner at the Loews Hotel. The second meeting occured at Matta’s studio in Paris where the artists discussed the possibility of a collaborative project, that did not progress, mixing Matta’s paintings with Latham’s computer art. They met for a third time in London at Matta’s house in Kensington where the artist bought two of Latham’s early evolutionary FormSynth Drawings for his collection. (Latham always regretted not doing a swap!)
